honestly, the state of this woman's fridge. he was despairing here.
"ready meals, jennifer? really?" he glanced past the door of the refrigerator, at the woman seated at the little kitchen table. "there isn't even milk. i don't know what you do with this lovely kitchen."
jennifer mcgrath didn't respond, mostly because she was gagged and bound to her trendy ikea furniture, but her expression of terror had a tinge of confusion to it. she'd been very keen to know who he was when he'd walked into her home, after all - before he'd put her under the impression he was her beloved ex-girlfriend, that was, and then it had been easy to secure her somewhat more tangibly. he was proud of that knotwork, after all.
turning back to the fridge with a put-upon moue of disappointment, jules slipped his phone out of his pocket, brought up the last sent message. the address of the woman's house and 'i may well die of boredom', to just's number, quite a while ago. he was regretting not amending it with 'bring food' now too, but it was too late.
on the plus side, he'd had plenty of time to explore her home - such a lot of compromising things for an aspiring politician! not least the three different sizes of brassieres in her laundry, but he wasn't going to judge. her adoring public, however, might have a different opinion. her middle-aged neighbour had already looked scandalised enough at jules, a well-dressed, well-groomed man knocking on the door.
of course, she'd immediately 'forgotten' what she'd seen. he wasn't an idiot.
closing the door and wandering over to ms mcgrath herself, he patted her lightly on the hair, beginning to look through her cupboards. "don't worry, jennifer. this isn't going to take too long. i just want a second opinion, you know? from another professional."
