i've been scrolling through the threads on the proboards support about v5, and apparently it's worse than i expected. a lot of the features they promise to be new and better are going to end up isolating a lot of the current rp community, such as:
- global accounts across all forums = we don't have multiple accounts for characters. - no more ubbc/classy/newclass tags = no fancy templates. at all. or at least all the ones we have right now will break. - really convoluted editing schemes for designing skins = nothing nice and pretty to rp on.
the predicted launch date for these changes is december. i realize a lot of this is superficial, but it's gotten to the point where they're ingrained in the rping community, and removing them is going to be a big blow that'll take a while to adjust to. therefore, i've started considering moving myself and any rping ventures to jcink. it's very similar to what we have now and what it doesn't have we can imitate using what they provide. also, there are a lot of functions there they have that proboards doesn't (built-in dohtml - simpler template designing!). i realize it's far in the future, but the question is would you no longer rp on memento mori if we changed forum hosting? pick a poll option and post any feedback you may have. :3

First comment by a lurking guest? Yes.
I just wanted to say that templates will work in jcink but better. The ubbc, style, and newclass tags you see in your templates uses HTML language and jcink has a dohtml function that allows you to write plain HTML. All the templates in proboards can be written the same way - if not better - in html. Both BTN and OTE, two major, proboards resource sites, are already releasing jcink versions (with OTE already having done so).
I'm not that familiar with skinning but since jcink is the child of IF, skinning isn't really any different than proboards. IF actually allows a more advanced customization but has problems with getting support and bugs, which jcink rectifies in so many ways. If you're not familiar skinning in jcink, you can make use of IF skins. They work as fine in jcink.
Also, jcink has a really nice custom mini profile system. Personally my favorite.
And if you have problems with jcink - codes or skinning - the jcink community is very helpful. I can attest that from experience.
In any case, I think I'll officially join in once a final decision's been made. Good luck to you guys!

thank you for the feedback tanz! i've been tending more and more towards jcink after hearing all the positive feedback, and have actually registered a test board to try fiddling around. (it's just as hard transitioning as i thought ;3;) i knew about btn and ote releasing jcink versions, so it's at least a bit heartening to see that we wouldn't be the only ones in the rp community migrating. a move will probably happen sooner rather than later. anyways, in the meantime we hope you'll consider joining us for our tenure on proboards! :'D
(ps: you don't have to register to post in this board. x3)

I just want to say that no, this isn't true. While I haven't messed around a ton with proboards v5's style tags that much, they still allow for custom post templates and designs. It works similar to HTML but instead of <> you use [].

thanks for the info garden. i'd been hearing contradicting info left and right so i just erred on the side of paranoia when writing that. (but regardless, any templates we have now would still need to be recoded.)
